Tim Ryan for Congress

Democrats win in fight for human rights (Team Ryan letter, 3/26/2010)

Health care reform provides
32,000,000 Americans
 medical coverage
--
Moments ago, President Obama signed the health care reform bill that Democrats, including Congressman Tim Ryan, have been fighting for over the last year or so. The bill is by far one of the greatest investments made in the American people in the history of this nation.
You might hear opponents of this bill argue that the bill is about "big government" and "socialism" and "higher taxes", not about health insurance. But they're missing the point completely: this bill is about humanity, equality and the liberty to choose health insurance.
What this means:
  • Children can stay on their parents' insurance until they turn 27 years old.
  • Families aren't faced with the threat of being unable to afford their insurance premiums that have risen at a rate of over 20% per year.
  • Someone recently diagnosed with cancer won't have to worry about being kicked off of their insurance plan.
  • Uninsured individuals and small businesses can now purchase insurance through an "exchange", which is basically a menu of insurers. This creates competition among insurance providers, driving costs down.
  • The uninsured will now have access to the very same, quality coverage that our Congressmen do.
  • Dollar savings: in 2009, St. Elizabeth's hospital on Youngstown, OH gave out over $30,000,000 in charity care.
  • The deficit will be reduced by $1 trillion dollars over the next 12 years.
In the 17th District,
  • Over 350,000 will have improved coverage, and tax credits will assist over 175,000 families and over 12,000 small businesses. These tax credits represent the largest health care tax cut for the middle class in history.
  • Closing the Medicare Part-D donut hole, ultimately providing senior citizens with better coverage and cheaper prescription drugs.
  • Extends health coverage to almost 40,000 residents.
  • Over 9,000 constituents with pre-existing conditions can now find coverage.
  • Allows over 50,000 young adults to stay on their parents' insurance plans.
  • Four new community health centers will be constructed in the district to accommodate the reform.
There are a lot of good things in this reform, and Team Ryan will be disseminating the information as necessary - please feel free to talk about the benefits of this reform to your friends and family.
We will also be disseminating information countering all of the faulty Republican arguments about this bill. Stay tuned.
Victory!
